DOES EDUCATION IN INDONESIA DEVELOP HUMAN RESOURCES?

Drs. Stefan Sikone, MM

The problem of Education is an actual problem for many governments, especially Indonesian government. Now, the educations development in Indonesia is very good when we see it from the great number of school buildings which are built year by year but the important problem is, does the education in Indonesia develop human resources?

The education in Indonesia is one of sub-system of the national development. The national development of Indonesian government consists of any other subsystems like economy, politic, and so on. It means that all people in Indonesia have to get their school or they have a fundamental right to be educated which is done through many various forms, so that they can fulfill their needs in their society on the one hand.

At the other hand the education in Indonesia also concern with the human resources development and their selves actualization based on the potency they have, not only physically power, but also their ratio, emotion or affection. The basis of education field accord with the focus of national development in this globalization era that is, developing human resources.

The components of education in Indonesia are formal education, and non formal education. These components are a totality, unity to get national idealism together with other subsystem above.

There many various kinds of non formal education which covers family education that is not done by a systematic program, courses, education and training in many fields like vocational courses, education in a religious organization, and education that is done by many non government organizations, and so on.

Nowadays, we can see that the education phenomena sometimes is a restriction to students potential by any pattern methods. The memory of student is only needed to answer many questions and problems by a teacher in all fields. This method is clearly restrict a potential of student because the questions by teachers time after time only need answer by speaking or writing of the facts. The students does not educated to show their opinion about anything. This pattern does not allow students to think, certainly, and it does not allow them to think alternatively, and fell free in their life.

In addition, the students are only oriented to get an occupation after schooling, even more in his strict competition. Really we can not deny the fact that economic needs is an important individual aspect that is closed related with our basic need. And this is not only about individual need, but also national interest that is a sequential with other aspects.

This orientation is also supported by a great number of unemployment factors that included many outputs (alumnus) of universities in Indonesia. Additionally, the industrial organizations are questioning the capability, and quality of these outputs to answer this competition era. Harmfully, the industrialization has selected to close any various kinds of underdevelopment in this country, so that this demand is properly received as its result. Therefore, it is logic and understandable when this specialization is only seen as an answer toward this competition era. It is a pity that this specialization practice has restricted the freedom of thoughts because by the running of it , clearly, the psycho motor aspect is an important part compared with affective aspect – in deciding the achievement of students, although it is not expressed explicitly through the subjects in schools.

Responding to the problem above, in my opinion , the students must be educated, trained to express their imagination in thought, ratio, and freedom to speech by a developing a good system, curriculum, strategy, and learning method. The strategy, must also has its relevance with the content of subject of learning and develop all potencies of the students. Developing human resources by education must be understood as an effort to give students be aware so that they know themselves who have many great capabilities and develop it in their life.@@@
